The Siege of Maastricht, 13 to 30 June 1673, took place during the Franco-Dutch War, when a French army captured the strategic Dutch fortress of Maastricht on the Meuse river.
Siege operations were was conducted by Vauban, and is thought to be the first use of a technique known as the "siege parallel", a concept that remained in use until the mid-20th century.
Although the Dutch failed to retake the city in 1676, it was returned under the terms of the 1678 Treaty of Nijmegen.
