The Battle of the Taro took place between 13 and 15 April 1814 , in the final stages of the Italian Campaign, and saw the Austro–Neapolitans fight against the Franco–Italian forces for the possession of the Taro river, essential to reaching Piacenza. The victory of Murat's forces was in any case superfluous, since the following day, for reasons completely unrelated to the outcome of the battle, the Viceroy of Italy, Eugène de Beauharnais, signed a convention that put an end to the armed conflict.
