The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, often stylized as tiff) is one of the most prestigious and largest publicly attended film festivals in the world.
Founded in 1976, the festival takes place every year in early September, in downtown Toronto. The organization behind the film festival is also a permanent destination for film culture at the TIFF Lightbox, which serves as a venue for some film screenings during the festival as well as cinematheque film series, commercial art house and independent film screenings, and other specialty film festivals, throughout the year.
The TIFF People's Choice Award – which is based on audience balloting – has emerged as an indicator of success during awards season, especially at the Academy Awards.
