The Republican insurgency in Afghanistan is an ongoing conflict waged by armed factions loyal to the defunct Islamic Republic of Afghanistan against the Taliban-led Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The conflict started immediately following the fall of Kabul in August 2021, and the insurgency represents the continuation of the decades-long Afghan conflict. The insurgency is primarily conducted by former Afghan government security personnel, local militias, and political and military organizations seeking to oppose or overturn Taliban rule.
The principal anti-Taliban organizations involved in the insurgency include the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) and the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), alongside a number of smaller resistance groups and local militias.
