Nurbanu Sultan (Ottoman Turkish: نور بانو سلطان; c. 1525 – 7 December 1583), also called Afife Nurbanu Sultan, was the chief consort and possibly legal wife of Ottoman sultan Selim II. As the mother of Murad III, she served as valide sultan from 1574 until her death in 1583. She was one of the most prominent figures during the Sultanate of Women.
