Kei Nishikori (錦織 圭, Nishikori Kei; [ɲiɕi̥koꜜɾi keꜜː]; born 29 December 1989) is a Japanese professional tennis player. He has a career-high singles ranking of world No. 4, making him the highest-ranked Japanese man in the Open Era and the second-highest-ranked of all time (after Jiro Sato). Nishikori has won twelve singles titles on the ATP Tour and was runner-up at the 2014 US Open (upsetting world No. 1 Novak Djokovic en route), making him the only man representing an Asian country to contest a major singles final. In addition, Nishikori defeated Rafael Nadal to win the bronze medal in singles at the 2016 Rio Olympics, bringing Japan its first Olympic tennis medal in 96 years. He holds the third best percentage of deciding-set wins in the Open Era at 72.4%, and has the third-highest win percentage in matches extending to five sets, with a record of 29–8 and a win percentage of 78.4%.
